Another example of the Katrina/FEMA Effecttm is the latest "Tomato Panic" that has all but destroyed the U. S. tomato grower infrastructure in the short term. 24/7 cable/satellite news exposure of the recent outbreak of salmonella in the United States with "knee jerk" reactions by the CDC, FDA and vendors has "created"a PANIC that may have better been resolved by sane administrative procedures.While safe preparation of any food is critical to individual health safety, common sense has to be used. I believe the lack of common sense is at the root of this latest media generated scare. Has the fear of litigation prompted by "nonsense lawsuits" caused major food purveyors and restaurants to remove tomatoes from their produce aisles and menu items?
